Bridging the Gap: Jones Bros’ Contribution to the Highway 127 Bridge

Updated: Jul 25

The Highway 127 Bridge Project

As contractors, some of the Jones Bros team works on projects that don’t get immediate attention. We are happy to do important work behind the scenes that helps the people and businesses of Tennessee thrive. That said, some of our projects do take center stage, as is the case with the ongoing Highway 127 Bridge project. This big job will eventually provide a convenient and safe connection between Crossville and Jamestown, improving the flow of traffic and opening up commercial opportunities for those in the area.

This job is a great case study on the capabilities possessed by Jones Bros and the ability of our team to take on large construction projects while delivering the expected results. Below, we’ll touch on some of the specifics of the job to highlight what is required to make this new bridge a reality.

Taking the Lead

Jones Bros is proud to be the prime contractor on the Highway 127 Bridge project. Our team is building the bridge and overseeing the rest of the project, including managing subcontractors working on water and sewer installation, electric, gas, and more. When finished, this new bridge is going to extend more than 1,400 feet and will take drivers safely over Clear Creek below.

Of course, this kind of project always entails more than just the construction of a bridge. To get to the point where the bridge can be built, plenty of preparation has to be completed, including clearing existing structures and vegetation, moving utilities, shaping the earth, adding a retaining wall, and beyond. It’s only thanks to the experience of Jones Bros and the extensive knowledge possessed by our talented team that we are able to take on a project of this scope with confidence.

Some Incredible Statistics

Unless you are standing on the ground at the job site staring at the size of the work that is being done, it’s hard to grasp the scale of this project. To gain a better understanding of the undertaking at hand, consider the statistics below:

  • Excavation work in excess of 850,000 cubic yards of material is required.

  • 100 precast concrete beams are needed, in addition to two million pounds of steel.

  • The roadways will demand roughly 45,000 tons of asphalt.

  • An average of 50 crew members are working on the site at any given time, including some weekend shifts.

  • 80,000 tons of base stone is needed to prepare the site for the weight of the bridge.

Once the bridge is completed—which is expected to happen in 2026—the drivers who travel back and forth over it each day will likely have little knowledge of the scale of the work that was needed to create the roadway. However, thanks to the hard work of the talented Jones Bros team and the many subcontractors, those drivers will enjoy safe and stable performance from the new bridge for many years to come.

Ready to Take on a Challenge

The ability of the Jones Bros team to take on the difficult Highway 127 Bridge project highlights the versatility of our contracting services. As a project that features many inherent difficulties, such as the topography of the area and the sheer size of the job, the Highway 127 Bridge isn’t something that all contractors would be able to handle comfortably. Jones Bros has the experience required for these kinds of advanced, technical projects and has been proven over the years to deliver reliable results. Get in touch today to learn more.
