Safety First: A Glimpse Into Our First MSHA Training of 2024

Updated: Nov 18, 2024

Jones Bros completed our first MSHA training of 2024 over three dates in February. To learn more about our services, contact the team today!

In construction, nothing is more important than safety. That applies to the users of the finished project as well as the people who bring that project to life along the way. Jones Bros is firmly committed to ongoing employee development and safety, not only to make sure the completed projects meet the highest quality standards but also because it is simply the right thing to do for the people who make up this business.

With that in mind, our first Mine Safety and Health Administration training for 2024 was recently completed. This training was a big success and enabled more than 100 people to acquire or brush up on the information they need to make smart decisions in the field. Let’s take a closer look at this training event and why it is so important.

What Is MSHA Training?

Ongoing training is a federal requirement for all miners, and mine operators are required to maintain a training plan. The Mine Safety and Health Administration, traditionally referred to as MSHA, offers assistance and materials to deliver these pieces of training effectively. It’s necessary for Jones Bros to stay current on all training requirements for work at MSHA-related sites, such as the Parsons Quarry.

Three Days of Instruction

Our first MSHA training of 2024 took place across three days throughout Tennessee. Training events were held on February 16th in Knoxville, February 20th in Nashville, and February 21st in Crossville. We were fortunate to have MSHA Safety Services expert Jenifer Padgett serve as the instructor for these sessions.

The education provided to more than 100 people in our organization included both Annual Refresher Training and New Miner Training. It’s always an exciting experience to bring new miners into the fold and provide them with the tools and knowledge they need to perform their duties safely. More than a quarter of the attendees of these training events were listed as new miners. Anyone who came into the sessions wondering things like, “How long does it take to get MSHA certification?” or “Is there a test for MSHA training?” will have received answers to all of their questions and more.

Seeing the Bigger Picture

Without a doubt, MSHA training is important, and providing as many opportunities as possible for our people to get the training they need is a top priority within our organization. With that said, MSHA training is only one piece of the overall safety puzzle. In the bigger picture, Jones Bros is dedicated to making sure that our people return home with the same good health that they had when arriving on the job site each day. From the quality and maintenance of our equipment to our operational plans, our training sessions, and beyond, safety is never a point that can be compromised.

Jones Bros Is Proud to Be an Industry Leader
